Is it ok to ask for a different room if you find something dissatisfying? Window facing a wall? Very dirty? etc. Should you really tip the maid? Obviously not at budget hotels, but at what kind of hotel is that proper? If you know you will be late for check in how far in advance should you call and inform them? Should you call more than once? How late do you have to be for it to be required that you call so your room is saved (2 hrs late? 5 hrs?)? Any other tips (or websites you can find) on hotel etiquette would be appreciated? (I’ll be travelling in the UK)
