I am flying in bad weather. How do I find out what airport my flight is coming from?
Find flightsFN L asked:
I am flying out of Providence tomorrow and there will be bad weather in the midwest. Is there any way to find out online where the plane my flight will use is coming FROM (and possibly the flight number) so I can watch for a delay?

You could only be certain of the equipment if the flight number didn’t change and Providence was the stopping point on an ongoing flight, which won’t be the case because Providence is not a hub for any airline.
Where are you flying to and at what time? Many airlines serving Providence will do so on “turnaround flights” If you’re on American to Chicago for instance and your flight is in the afternoon, then typically you can look at the American flight that arrives from Chicago around an hour before your flight is scheduled to leave. That will be your equipment most likely.
If you’re flight is in the morning before say 10Am, then your equipment arrived the night before.
BUT!!! You cannot rely on any information regarding equipment, because if there is a significant delay, your airline could possibly
swap equipment to suit their current needs, so keep that in mind.

I work for an airline and I hardly know that information. That changes often based on what will cause the least delay. Not only do you have to worry about where your plane is coming from, but where your whole crew is coming from. They often don’t travel with the plane all day, or with each other.

Call and ask the reservations agent.
One word of caution though….. you may call and get the flight info and they tell you your plane is coming from, let’s say DCA. It’s running four or five hours late and you decide to stay home a while longer before heading to the airport. It’s possible that five minutes after you get off the phone the airline will do an equipment swap and the flight could go back to being on time. Equipment swaps are VERY common… especially during bad weather.
Just use your best judgement and make sure you have all of your life saving medicine and a clean pair or underoos in your carry-on baggage in case you get stuck somewhere. Good Luck!
