well, to start off, the VERY best food will be expensive but there are some less expensive options
first off, stay out of hotel restaurants…those are mediocre and really expensive
if you are on South Michigan, you are a good walk from North Michigan shopping, but not too far. The “mag mile” starts around 500 north michigan….in Chicago, there are 8 blocks, or 800 by the numbering system, to a mile.
If you are at the Hilton on South Michigan (which is an expensive hotel), you are around 700 south….so is 1 1./2 miles to shopping.
Dining options….unique to Chicago:
1 - Greek town….Halsted and Monroe…800 West…take a cab…a number of wonderful Greek restaurants….Greek Islands is a bit touristy but will give you a good selection
2 - Pizzeria Uno or Dua….Chicago style thick crust Pizza pies….
3 - Heaven on Seven….wonderful cajun cooking on 7th floor of Garland building on Wabash…best cajun in Chicago…lunch only
For a less expensive breakfast, check out Lou Mitchells on 500 block of W Jackson….
Trickier on Club scene….you / GF are not old enough to drink so you will have to look for events….check out local acts at Jam Productions - see below - or Chicago Reader - also see below

I LOVE CHICAGO!! okay, food, ditka’s is good, there is a lot of food there and it’s probably better for you just to go and see something that you know you’ll like cause i’m positive that you”ll see some restaurants while you’re getting there and there’s so many unique restaurants in chicago. even though you don’t want to go to boring museums there are a lot of interesting things in chicago that you’ll think sound boring but aren’t. the field museum is actually one of the most interesting places i’ve ever been and you’ll never forget it. they have real mummies and dino skeletons. the shedd aquarium is cool too. IF YOU’RE GOING TO CHICAGO THEN GO TO NAVY PIER!! navy pier has like everything and i’ts perfect for tourists and it’s really cool to see stuff at . the water tower place is perfect for shopping and it shouldn’t be too far from your hotel on mighigan ave. (depending where on mich. ave you are) it’s pretty cold there. but duiring the day it gets warmer. i hope this helped!

If you want to see weird people. Go to the outdoor flea market on Canal St. You can take a cab there. I am positive the cab driver will know exactly where it is. Lincoln Park Zoo is free and it is right on the lake. For night life check out. Also a lot of the Spanish music clubs will let you guys in, but they won’t serve you alcohol.
Check out the weather everyday for about a week before you leave by going to and put in Chicago. It will give you the 10 day for cast.

Staying in a hotel on Michigan Ave, you got it beat. There is everything on that street! There are cheap sandwich shops, there are fantastic “hole-in-the-wall” places that have the most amazing food. As for clubs, you are under age and that option is out. But there is so much to do in downtown. Even just walking and people watching is fun. You must eat at the Rainforest Cafe. A bit expensive but well worth the money. There is one near Michigan Ave, but I forget the street. You can find directions and locations on
there are links there for other places. And the shopping is awesome! If you are looking for a bargain type place, go to Marshalls. You MUST have dinner one night in Hancock Tower. I can’t recall the name but it’s on the top floor of Hancock Tower. It has a 360 view of the city and navy pier. Navy pier is a great place to spend an afternoon. They have cafes, gift shops, rides and it’s beatiful there. In May the weather should be nice and warm. It gets pretty hot there in the summer. But they do have a “beach” on the shore of lake Michigan. If you like rollerblading, around the lake is good for that. You can take a blanket and have a picnic for lunch in one of the parks just a couple of blocks off Michigan Ave and near the lake. It’s within walking distance from the Ave. I”d love to go back there myself. It’s a fantastic place. If you can find a pizza place called Ricobene’s Pizza. A Chicago original. Just go and enjoy the city. A weekend really isn’t enough. Not for me anyway.

Ok listen up.
If you plan on going to Navy Pier and not eating there then go to Dick’s Last Resort.
Dick’s last resort is so much fun I went a number of times. I first went there with my girlfriend and my parents. All the waiters and waitreses are rude to you and they throw stacks of napkins at you so you can throw them around the room at strangers.
The next time I went was for my 21st birthday. Wow that was even more fun (as you can imagine). I might actually be going there this Sat. There or ESPN zone. But that is 21 and over only.
If you like the 80’s try going to “80’s Prom” It’s on Weed street, I’ve never been there but have gone to the restraurant right next to it which is Sangria. It looked real fun though.
Well good luck
Oh you can also try looking on for more things to do. You can also type in the address of the hotel and sort through restraurants, events, theaters, etc. by location from you.
If you have anymore questions you can email me.

No advice just my story…My wife and I flew in a few months back for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. (Awesome concert!) Do the cliche….Uno Pizza…Chicago dogs! I loved the city. We can’t wait to go back next year in the Spring.
