Need advice on Chicago trip?
Find HotelAmber asked:
Ok I’m planning a trip to Chicago in July… I need some help on hotels! I need to find one within a reasonable price (I don’t need to stay at the Ritz or anything) and close to the city if not IN the city. Any help would be greatly appreciated… I’ve had the most awful time trying to find something within reason. We don’t want to spend a ton of money on a hotel b/c we’re not going to spend much time in it… thank you all…

While I have friends that live in Chicago I stay with everytime I go–I will suggest a few places that are AMAZING.
–Russian Tea Time (for afternoon tea–amazing! it’s run by Russians and it’s incredible if you’re into that kind of thing) right by the Art Institute
-The Art Institute is a must
-Go see a show!
-Alot of times theres free stuff going on in Millenium park that’s fun
-Navy Pier (ride the ferris wheel)
-Chinatown–eat chinese anywhere…it’s great
-Ed Debevick’s (restaurant) is fun
-The Mag mile where all the designer shops are
have fun! Chicago is great

There are no really cheap hotels in the downtown area itself; I would suggest finding a cheap hostel outside of the city, by a CTA stop, and taking the train in to do things. There are cheap places along Milwaukee, pretty close to the city.

One thing that I would suggest is maybe thinking about a suburb hotel. They are usually much cheaper and the taxes are less if you went to buy things. Also, there are many train stations (either the El or the Metra will be near) and you could just jump a train to the city, then take cabs wherever you want to go. You really don’t need a car in Chicago, in fact, I would say that it’s more of a hassle. There are always other options. I would suggest one of the west and northwest suburbs. Check on the Metra website to find a small suburb if you were interested in something along those lines.

The skokie comfort inn is a good choice, skokie is a 15 min drive from downtown, it is also located right next to downtown evanston. The rates for one night are like 140 a night i think mayb less. also it is across the street from the old orchard shopping center, its a very nice out side mall. Skokie has many buss’ and cabs to take, skokie also has a CTA train station located on dempster street, if you take the train you’ll be in downton in like 40 mins. Also there are many metra train stations (I would recommend taking the metra as it is faster (20 min ride) and safer to travel) located near skokie, about a 3 min drive from the comfort inn. Also there are many beachs near and around skokie.

Try this place
Its a Days Inn in Lincoln Park. Double Occupancy is 121 dollars. Its near a train so once you park your car, thats all you need. Get an unlimited ride pass. A week is like 20 dollars per person and that is your best bet.
This is near great bars and good restaurants. The night life is constantly buzzing. Also since it is near the Red Line, that will take you to either ball park, downtown (for other connections or entertainment) and other popular neighborhoods.
