Assume you check in and pay on a credit card, but dont see any “no pets” sign.
What if they see you have a dog upon exit and want to charge you more, but you refuse to pay more?

You would need to pay more. You always need to check with the places you are staying at if you may bring a pet. It’s your responsibility to pay for your actions. The motel cannot be blamed for your sneaking a dog in the room.

In most hotels I believe it is an understood policy. From working at a hotel I know in tiny random little places we have a no pets policy. There is NO obligation to have a large sign. It’s a hotel for people not for critters. As a pet owner you should be responsible enough to ask if you are not sure.
You basically can’t refuse. They can run your numbers and fine you. You can then try to challenge it in a court typically.

You HOPE they don’t find out! A quiet well behaved dog NOT left alone for any period of time should be fine. ;~)

As long as you’re assuming (dangerous as that is), you should assume that any hotel/motel does not allow pets and ask before checking in. Most do not, or charge an additional fee to allow them in the rooms.
Depending on the fine print on the room contract, they may be able to charge your credit card for any additional fees as if you had damaged the room.

THE DOG EXPLODES!!!! There is a reason they are not allowed!
it is just against their policy and you might get thrown out and charged for cleaning (people are allergic to dogs) really no one would care unless they are allergic.

they would call the police i imagine.
there are building codes on what places can and cannot have a dog.
hotels that accept dogs have a license/permit to do that. hotels that deny pets DO NOT have a permit. if you bring an animal into a hotel w/out a permit you are setting the hotel up for a chance of being SUED by other guests due to pet allergies or other accidents etc.
it’s irresponsible of you to do that. and YOU in turn can be sued for the loss the hotel incurs from it.
be smart, book at a pet friendly hotel next time.
those rules are not there just to tick you off or inconvenience you, they are established for a reason.
btw- if you paid w/a credit card you’re pretty much screwed anyways..cause they’d charge you extra.
