Where can we find a cheap hotel in New York City?

I went last year (august) with my daughter. I booked through a site…www.hotelconxions.com…I was able to get an excellent rate but I booked in February.
Amertaina Hotel, located on Broadway and 54th Street. We stayed there. The rooms were small. But the hotel was on Broadway, in a very well lit area. She and I felt comfortable not to have to take a taxi. We walked after plays and sight seeing several days until 12.30am. We really didn’t spend that much time in the room. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. They even allowed up the chance to store our luggage after we checked up while we walked about and then went to the airport! Also, look into the airport shuttled. It’s a better price than a cab!
Be sure to read hotel reviews and shop around! Best of Luck!

The Big Apple Hostel is a great place i stayed at with my mom a couple years ago… The problem is, in the summer it is usually fully booked months in advance. Its worth a try though, the location is amazing (a block away from Times Square), the rates are reasonable and definitely don’t let the ‘hostel’ part turn you off… there are private rooms available and it was very clean when we went.

You might check out:
Hotel 17, located right near Union Square and within short walking distance to a subway station. I have stayed there a few times. It’s kind of a quirky hotel, but clean. The only downside is that the bathroom/shower is down the hall (kind of like staying in house). The rooms do have sinks, but if you need a shower or the toilet, you have to walk down the hall. I never had issues waiting to use the bathroom either.
Hotel Belleclair on the upper west side. Clean, chic and comfortable.
Eastgate Tower Hotel
I have also heard good things about the Pod Hotel, but have never stayed there myself.

Comfort Inn Convention Centre
Pan American Hotel - in Queens (the former ones in great Manhattan locations), and has - alongside good reviews - some several tepid (and even bad) reviews on TripAdvisors, all from last May and the management claims that the problem noted on these reviews has been taken care of: ++D&lng=EN&h_validate=1&h_sbl=%2fSearch.aspx%3fhs_mpl%3d29887%26hs_locationnr%3d18492%26han%3d2204424%26pcon%3d1%26hs_destination%3dNew%2bYork%26hs_validate%3d2%26hs%3d5%26hs_ltype%3d1%26hs_landisoa3%3dUSA%26hs_arrival%3d19%252f08%252f2008%26lng%3dEN%26hs_departure%3d23%252f08%252f2008%26hs_circum%3d0%26hs_persons%3d2%26hs_llat%3d40%252c74994%26hs_pl%3d250%26nsad%3d1%26hs_llong%3d-73%252c98794%26hsr%3d1%26dcc%3dUSD%26hs_lnh%3d263&h_arrival=19%2f08%2f2008&h_persons_total=2&nsad=1&h_departure=23%2f08%2f2008&st_pos=15&h_fbrs=5&dcc=USD&h_step=3
If you’re willing to take a chance with a new hotel, try this one:
In addition, let me repeat the advice to widen the search to New Jersey, Long island, etc.
